Jeep has confirmed the India launch of the new Grand Cherokee, along with announcing that the SUV will be locally assembled. The Grand Cherokee will be the company’s fourth locally assembled model following in the footsteps of the Wrangler, Compass, and the upcoming Meridian three-row SUV.

Its appeal is bolstered by the fact that it pairs impressive off-road capability with on-road refinement, offers lots of available luxury appointments and features, and has the rugged, outdoorsy look Jeep buyers love.

What’s New for 2022?

For the 2021 model year, Jeep launched a new generation of the Grand Cherokee, but it only offered the new model as a L-three-row variant alongside the previous-generation, two-row GC.

For the 2022 model year, the Grand Cherokee sheds its old bones with the introduction of a two-row body style riding atop the new architecture.

This will be the first time that the Grand Cherokee will be locally assembled in India with Jeep saying that India will be the first market outside North America to have the SUV locally assembled.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee: turbo-petrol engine confirmed:

While the previous Grand Cherokee was available with both petrol and diesel engines, the new SUV will be a petrol-only model. While Jeep has not revealed engine outputs, it has confirmed that the SUV will use a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. As before, the Grand Cherokee will pack in four-wheel drive with selectable terrain modes – Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand, and Snow.

Rivals and Competitors:

The Grand Cherokee will go up against luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, and Land Rover Discovery in India.

It remains to be seen if a diesel option could be made available at a later stage.
